Terms & policies
Written to be read rather than skipped. If anything here is unclear, ask before you book — it is easier to sort now than afterwards.
This page is a working draft. It sets out how we intend to operate, but it has not yet been checked by a solicitor and it is not a substitute for the written quote you will receive. Where this page and your quote disagree, your quote wins.
Terms of business
These terms apply to work carried out by Above & Beyond Arboriculture Limited for domestic and commercial customers across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and the wider North East of Scotland. Your written quote, together with these terms, forms the agreement between us.
We will always confirm the work in writing before starting. Nothing is agreed on the strength of a conversation alone — that protects both of us.
Quotes & payment
- Site visits and quotes are free and carry no obligation.
- Quotes are fixed, itemised and valid for 30 days. The price does not change unless the job changes.
- If we find something genuinely unforeseen once work starts — hidden decay, buried services, a tree in worse condition than it looked from the ground — we stop and talk to you before doing anything that would alter the price.
- Payment is due within 14 days of completion unless agreed otherwise in writing.
- Larger projects may be quoted in stages, with each stage invoiced on completion.
- Prices shown on this website are indicative ranges only. They are not offers and they are not binding. Only a written quote is.
Access & your property
- Please make sure we can get to the work area on the agreed day, and that vehicles, garden furniture and anything breakable are moved clear.
- Tell us about anything underground you know of — drains, cables, septic tanks, land drains, irrigation. We check what we reasonably can, but we cannot see through soil.
- We protect lawns and hard surfaces with boards and mats where machinery is used. Some marking on soft ground in winter is unavoidable, and we will say so in advance rather than after.
- All arisings are chipped or removed as set out in your quote. If you want timber kept for firewood, tell us before we start.
- We do not need you to be at home, provided access is arranged and the quote is agreed.
Trees, wildlife & the law
Some of this is not our choice, and it is worth understanding before you book.
- Protected trees. Where a tree has a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area, written consent from the planning authority is required before work starts. We check this as part of the free visit and will make the application on your behalf at no charge. We will not carry out unauthorised work to a protected tree, whatever the circumstances. See TPOs & tree law.
- Nesting birds. It is an offence to damage or destroy an active nest. Between roughly March and August we check before cutting, and where an active nest is found that work waits until the birds have fledged. No deadline overrides this.
- Bats and other protected species. If we find evidence of bats in a tree, work stops immediately and a licensed ecologist is needed before it can continue.
- Boundaries. You are responsible for confirming that the tree is yours and that you have the right to instruct work on it. Where a tree sits on or near a boundary we will ask you to confirm this in writing.
- Good practice. Tree work is carried out in accordance with BS 3998. We do not top trees, and we will explain the alternative if that is what has been asked for.
Insurance & safety
- We carry public liability insurance. A certificate is available on request, and we would encourage you to ask for it — from us or from anyone else quoting.
- Work is carried out by trained operators using maintained, inspected equipment.
- Please keep children and pets indoors and away from the work area while machinery or climbing work is in progress.
- Where overhead power lines are involved we will not begin until the network operator has made the conductors safe. This is not negotiable and it may affect timing.
Cancellation & weather
- You may cancel or reschedule at no cost with at least 48 hours' notice.
- Cancelling with less notice may incur a charge covering costs already committed — hired plant, permits or traffic management.
- We may postpone for weather. High wind in particular makes climbing and crane work unsafe. If we move your date for that reason there is no charge, and we will rebook at the earliest opportunity.
- During major storms, emergency call-outs take priority over planned work. We will always tell you if your booking is affected.
- Consumers have statutory cancellation rights for contracts agreed away from our business premises. Nothing here reduces those rights.
If something goes wrong
Tell us first, and quickly. Most problems are straightforward to put right if we hear about them while we are still nearby.
Email info@aboveandbeyond.scot or message us on WhatsApp with photographs and a description. We will acknowledge within two working days and set out what we propose to do. If we cannot resolve it between us, we will discuss an independent third party.
This does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Privacy
The short version: this website does not track you. There is no analytics, no advertising pixel, no third-party script watching what you do.
- The quote form. What you tap into it stays in your own browser until you press the button. Nothing is transmitted to us before that point. Pressing "Send on WhatsApp" opens WhatsApp with the message ready — you are still the one who chooses to send it.
- One exception, and we would rather spell it out. If you type a full postcode into the quote form, that postcode alone is sent to postcodes.io so we can show you which area it is in. It is a free open-data service, it receives nothing but the postcode, and it is never told who you are. Typing a town name instead sends nothing at all, and the form works perfectly well without it.
- What we hold. When you contact us we keep your name, contact details, address and the details of the work, so we can quote and carry out the job. That is it.
- Why we may keep it. To provide the service, to meet our legal and accounting obligations, and to deal with any question about the work afterwards.
- How long. Enquiry records are kept for up to two years. Records of completed work and invoices are kept for six years, which is the period accounting and liability rules require.
- Who else sees it. Nobody, other than our accountant and — if you make a claim — your insurer. We do not sell or share contact details, ever.
- Job photographs. We photograph work for our own records and sometimes for this website or social media. Images never identify an address. Tell us if you would rather we did not photograph your property and we will not.
- Your rights. Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email info@aboveandbeyond.scot and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies — which is why there is no cookie banner interrupting you. There is no analytics and no advertising pixel of any kind.
The quote form saves your part-finished answers in your own browser's local storage, so you do not lose them if the page reloads. That data never leaves your device, is not readable by us, and you can clear it any time by clearing your browser data.
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers see your IP address as part of serving the file — as they would for any website using the same fonts. If you would rather that did not happen, the fonts can be self-hosted instead; ask and we will do it.
